stage 07 part 6 Maintain the right expectations

f. Maintain the right expectations

We need to have sufficient focus and desire to make our vision happen but not so much that it causes us problems. Our plans need to be sufficiently robust so that we achieve our goals but not expect so much from us it causes us problems.

In addition to this, there are a number of things that we need to make sure that we have right in the area of expectations. Any one of the following false expectations will cause us problems.

1. We can achieve without hard work.

2. We can achieve something by making half-hearted efforts and gain the same results as we would if worked on it whole-heartedly.

3. Those who we look up to have done well because of good timing rather than hard work.

4. We thought that we could achieve our aims without experiencing disappointment.

5. We thought most of our friends and family would support our efforts.

6. We thought that there would be no learning curve.

7. Everyone we worked with would be able to carry out the tasks assigned to them.

8. We thought that we could achieve things without leaving our comfort zone.

9. We saw how we could have an increasing circle of influence without putting in the effort required to build an organisation.

10. We thought that our organisation could grow without us having to grow as well.

11. We thought that “no pain no gain” only applied in the gym.

12. We thought that we did not need to be tough to win.

Some of these might sound a bit pessimistic but the intention is to be realistic. If we are overly optimistic then when things do not work out as we expected we will not be able to handle the situation.
